How to make Lauki Kofta Curry or Doodhi Kofta or Bottle Gourd Kofta Curry Recipe

Lauki Kofta Curry or ghiya ke kofte is a traditional cuisine made from the bottle gourd (Opo squash). This recipe has its unique styles coming from different states. Mixing all the Indian spices (masalas), onion and tomato puree makes is more delicious.

The kofta balls are made with grated lauki(bottle gourd) and chickpea flour (Besan).  We all are very familiar with the goodness present in the bottle gourd. This is advisable for diabetic patients and helps in losing weight. Also, a significant source of vitamins and dietary fibers reduces inflammation of the liver and much more.  This vegetable has several hidden medicinal benefits that are not known to people. Better to have a search and start accepting it as a good veggie. If you don’t like it, then make bottle gourd kofta curry so that you get some good through it.

Ingredients:

Ingredients for Lauki Kofta or Doodhi or Bottle Gourd Curry Kofta

  • Lauki (Bottle Guard)  – 250 Gram ( Grated)
  • Besan (Gram Flour) – ½ Cup
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 Tea Spoon
  • Green Chili – 1 finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves (Cilantro) – Finely Chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry

Ingredient for Curry

  • 2 Large Onion
  • Ginger Garlic Paste 1Table spoon
  • 2 Medium Size Tomato
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli
  • 3/4 teaspoon turmeric powder/haldi
  • 3/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin/ jeera powder
  •  Bay Leaf
  • 1 Black cardamom
  • 3-4 black paper seeds
  • 1 cinnamon / dalchini
  • Fresh coriander leaf finely chopped
  • Water

Preparation:

Kofta: Mix Grated bottle ground, Besan, ginger garlic paste, green chilli, salt and coriander leaf and keep aside for about 10 to 15 min to make Kofta mix

Masala:

  1. Grind 1 big onion to make paste and 1 finely chopped onion
  2. Make tomato Puree
  3. For wet masala: Mix coriander powder, red chilli, turmeric powder/haldi, garam masala, cumin/ jeera powder in a small bowl with some water.

Method of cooking Lauki / Doodhi / Bottle Gourd Kofta

  • Take oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat
  • Put bay leaf, black cardamom, black paper seeds, cinnamon / dalchini
  • Add chopped onion and stir until it is brown
  • Add onion paste and stir until it gets brown
  • Put ginger garlic paste and add chopped green chilli to it and cook for couple of minutes
  • Add mixed wet masala prepared in the preparation section and stir it in slow heat for around 8-10 minutes
  • Once Masala get ready to put two and a half glass of water and get it boiled for 10 to 12 Minutes
  • Take some oil in another pan over medium heat
  • Make the equal small round of Kofta mix from and deep fry them nicely till they get brown
  • Put this Kofta into the gravy and boil it for 5 to 7 min and switch off the flame
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaf and Lauki Kofta is Ready 🙂
  • Serve it with Jeera Rice or Roti or Chapati
